Richard John Segall, of Norwell, passed away on June 24, 2020 with his wife by his side. Loving and beloved husband of Carrie Sorokoff-Segall and devoted and proud father of Mason and Ella Segall. Survived by his brother T.D. (Walter) Segall of New York City; mother-in-law Nancy Sorokoff of Hingham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail Sorokoff and Matthew Sheahan of Mansfield and David Sorokoff and Karyn Byrd of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. The son of Manfred and Ellen, Rick was a first generation American who grew up in Chicago. He was proud of his German Jewish heritage.
Family was the centerpiece of Rick’s life and caring for his wife and children was his priority. The love he held for them was evident and he would do anything for them. He loved laughing and swapping puns and jokes with his daughter. He was proud of his son’s writing and creative thinking. Endlessly curious, Rick loved to learn new things and read constantly, missing his weekly visits to the library during the corona virus shut down. A radio lover and regular listener of NPR and WQXR, he appreciated jazz, bluegrass, and classical music. He enjoyed concerts, theaters, museums, travel, and good conversation. As a cancer survivor, he appreciated the life-saving care he had received at Mass General Hospital and returned there often to donate blood to pay it forward. His family will remember his pleasure in the company of friends and family, his comical overuse of cologne, his delight in good coffee, a good rum, and a good meal, his story telling, his love of life, and his positive approach to everything. He was a good man.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mass General Hospital or the Friends of the Norwell Public Library.
