Richard "Chip" Muncey Obituary

Richard “Chip” Dow Muncey of Abington, passed away on September 16th, 2022 after a period of failing health. Born in Boston on February 20, 1968 to loving parents Mary K Muncey ( Bacigalupo) and John D Muncey. Chip grew up in Cohasset and attended Cohasset High School,  Class of 86’. He immediately went to work for the Cohasset Water Department where he remained for 9 years. Chip worked for other municipal water departments including Pembroke and Hanson. He retired as Superintendent of the Hanson Water Department in 2018. Chip was an elected Water Commissioner for the Town of Abington since 2003 to his death. Prior to that he was also an elected Water Commissioner for the Town of Cohasset for 4 years. Chip was the proud owner of his own private waterworks company since 2003.

To say that Chip was a people person is an understatement. Everyone that met Chip loved him and he, them. He was not only the most generous person you could meet but he was loving, thoughtful, loyal and hilariously funny.  He loved  people. If you were lucky enough to be called a friend you were a better person because of him. There wasn’t a thing that Chip would not do for his friends. He adored each and every one for their unique qualities. He had so many friendships that lasted his lifetime. Some were childhood friends and others came later in life.  He will forever be remembered as one of the best.

Chip is survived by his loving parents, John D Muncey and Mary K Muncey of Cohasset, his brother Francis N Muncey of Abington, his sister Elizabeth C Mannion and her partner Eric Young of Holbrook. He was the loving uncle to Liam and Ciaran Mannion, whom he loved like his own. Chip was the loving nephew to William and Hazel Bacigalupo of Duxbury, the late Jane Dolph of Plymouth and Susan Cabaniol of Adams, Ma. He left behind many wonderful cousins.

Chip was deeply devoted to his family and enjoyed each get together. He loved to laugh and looked forward to time spent with his brother, sister and his two nephews. Their genuine camaraderie was unmatched. There was never a dry eye as the laughs were endless.

Chip was an avid lover of guns. He was a NRA certified Firearms Instructor, which was his passion. He spent many years as a competition shooter.
