Ruth Ann (Rados) Horgan

Ruth A. Horgan, a long-time resident of Norwell, MA, passed away peacefully in Wallingford, CT on September 7, 2019.  She was 94.

The mother of Cheryl Horgan Beacock of Southport, CT, she was predeceased by her husband, Francis L. Horgan, as well as her son David L. Horgan.

She was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Caroline J. Rados and was predeceased by her three siblings; Marie Rados Ostler, Robert Rados and Dorothy Rados Camden.

A graduate of Girls High School in Boston, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Simmons College and her Master’s degree from Antioch College.

Her professional career included roles as the Chairperson, Dietetics Division – Laboure College; Director of School Food Services – Norwell Public Schools; Chief Dietitian- Staff Relief Beth Israel Hospital and Chief Dietitian Lawrence Memorial Hospital.  She also served in several consulting roles including nutritionist/interviewer for the National Diet Heart Study – Harvard School of Public Health.

Ruth was member of the Simmons College Alumnae Association, the South Shore Simmons Club and the American Dietetic Association. She was an active participant in the Lifelong Learning Program at U. Mass Boston, and for many years spent several volunteer hours at the JFK Library reviewing student essays for the JFK Library Profiles in Courage student essay contest. 

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 10:00 AM, St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 383 Washington Street, Norwell, MA.
