Stephen Marchetti, 76 of Norwell, passed away on June 7, 2021 from complications due to a long illness. Born in Quincy on April 10, 1945, he was the husband of the late Deborah Marchetti (Haydon) and son of the late Felix and Ines (Venti) Marchetti. Raised and educated in Quincy and Hingham, Stephen attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was later employed as an electrical engineer and NASA certified solderer at the MIT Center for Space Research. He then moved on to work for ESL (Electro Signal Lab) in Rockland where he worked to develop new technology for smoke detectors obtaining several patents. Stephen then returned to MIT for the remainder of his career working in the Brain and Cognitive Science Lab as an engineer. Stephen is survived by his three children, Eric S. Marchetti and his wife Amy of Bridgewater, Andrew S. Marchetti of Medford, and Ellen B. Orlando and her husband Robert of Middleboro. Dear brother of Claudia Wait of Duxbury. Cherished Papa of Juliana, Anthony, Isabella, Natalie, and Elisabeth. Nobody could have been more proud of his grandchildren and Stephen would relish in the daily updates of their lives. Stephen also leaves behind his niece and nephews. May he Rest in Peace.
Visitation will be at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. Norwell, on Monday June 14, from 4 - 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Helen Church, 383 Washington St. Rte. 53, in Norwell on Tuesday, June 15, at 10 a.m. Interment in Washington St. Cemetery, Norwell.
