Thomas “Tom” James Mone, D.M.D, of Cohasset, MA passed away unexpectedly in August 2023 at the age of 73.
Tom was born to Mary and the Honorable Judge William Kerr Mone, and raised in Brockton, MA alongside eight siblings, with whom he always remained close. In 1970 he met Rosemary Butler - it was love at first sight and they married three years later. They later welcomed three wonderful children, Nell, Kerr and Keelin, whom they raised in the seaside town of Minot, MA. He relished his most recent role as fun-loving “TJ” to his grandchildren, who adored him.
Tom received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, followed by his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated at the top of his class. After completing training at Boston University Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry, he opened his Periodontal practice in Braintree in 1977; he was Board Certified in Periodontology in 1999. He enjoyed a fulfilling and successful 45-year career before retiring earlier this year.
Outside of dentistry, Tom had a lifelong passion for the game of golf, amassing countless tournament wins at his club, Hatherly Country Club, and beyond. He passed on his love for golf to his children, and most recently his grandchildren. In recent years he enjoyed walking famous golf courses as an official scorer for the USGA. Tom was also an avid sailor from a young age, racing Beetle Cats with his cousins and later, Hobie Cats with his wife along the Eastern Seaboard.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Rose; his three children and their spouses Gary and Hillary; his four grandchildren; six siblings Robert, Brian, Mary, Sheila, Stephen and Patrick; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his two sisters, Ellen and Katherine.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 13th between 3-5pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. Cohasset, MA.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that anyone wishing to make contributions in his memory do so to the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester.
