Winston (Win) Stanyan Rice of Norwell passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020 with members of his family at his side. He was the son of Theo and Josephine (Stanyan) Rice
He is survived by his four children, Linda, Winston Jr. “Buddy”, Lucie and Jonathan; five grandchildren, Gordon, Alden and Elizabeth Kinder, Nicholas Rice and Emma Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Eloise, Daniel and John “Jack” Kinder.
Win was born in Melrose, Massachusetts and graduated from Wilbraham & Munson Academy in Wilbraham Massachusetts. Win completed his undergraduate degree with a BA from Bates college in 1958. He served in the Army’s Military Intelligence Service and was stationed in Hawaii where he married his wife of 64 years, Carol (Crocker) Rice. He worked as a New England sales account manager for Owens Corning fiberglass for 26 years and then started his own company, Acoustical and Insulation Supply, which he ran successfully for many years.
Throughout his life he enjoyed Tennis at the Hanover Swim and Tennis club and Scituate Tennis club. He was an intrepid sailor participating with his crew in weekly regatta’s out of Scituate harbor on his boat, the Sunburst. Win reveled in the annual Figawi race from Hyannis to Nantucket. Win was an avid skier and loved extended family gatherings up at Shawnee Peak. Win also enjoyed weekly golf outings at local courses on the South Shore and enjoyed playing poker with friends.
In recent years Win lovingly cared for his ailing wife, Carol, enabling her to live out her life in the comfort of their beautiful home. Win will always be known as the life of party, a diligent worker, a devoted husband, and a caring father and grandfather.
A private celebration of Win’s life will be held at a future date.
