Annette Lyons (Milliken) Goddard, 85, of Methuen, passed away on July 25, 2015. She was born September 19, 1929 in Scituate, MA and attended Scituate public schools; she received her BA from Wheaton College (MA) and her graduate degree from Radcliffe College. Almost 60 years ago she married James Delaronde Goddard, with whom she raised a large family and worked in their local retail business.
Mother of seven, Annette was a marvel of organization and efficiency and kept everyone and everything running smoothly in her bustling household. Besides being a loving and involved mom, she was also a wonderful gardener, skilled seamstress, excellent swimmer, avid sports fan, political junkie, and book lover. And while many of these attributes were passed down to her children, her greatest legacy to them was her social conscience: through the example of her volunteer activities and her strong faith she exemplified the importance of community, compassion, and being an involved and honest citizen of the world.
Annette is survived by her husband and by her children Deborah of Dorchester; Elizabeth and her wife Marny Ashburne of Malden; Susan Dooley and her husband Bob of Seaside, CA; Anne and her husband Shawn Sullivan of Haverhill; John and his wife Lauren of Methuen; James of Haverhill; and Michael and his wife Barbara of Mendon. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, James, Lydia, Riane, John, Hannah, Alison, and Michelle, as well as many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and their spouses. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 12 noon in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, MA. Donations to honor Annette may be made to the American Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders.
