Marion D. (Tobin) Bayley

Marion D. Bayley of Norwell, age 94, died on June 15, 2016 after a brief illness. Married 58 years to the late Charles W. Bayley, Jr., survived by three children, James F. and Cynthia A. (both of Norwell), and Barbara J. (San Francisco, CA). Born in Bayonne NJ, she moved to Braintree, MA with her family in 1936 and graduated from Braintree High School in 1939. She graduated with a BS in Education and Chemistry, with a minor in biology, from Boston University in 1943, and worked as a chemist for many years at General Latex in Cambridge, MA and later at Weymouth Art Leather in Braintree, MA. She joined Emanuel Parish of Braintree shortly after arriving in town. A few years after moving to Norwell in 1950, she transferred her membership to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Hanover where she was active in several organizations, including Bible Study, the Couples’ Club, and Altar Guild. She regularly attended weekly services there for the rest of her life. She was active in many other area organizations including Norwell Women’s Club where she served as president, Friends of South Shore Hospital, Hanover Garden Club, and was a federating member of Norwell Garden Club. She was a founding member of The South River Beach Club and served as Club Secretary for many years. Bridge was a particular interest; she played with several groups weekly, on occasion competitively where she often scored master points. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 24, at 1:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Church, 17 Church St. in Hanover, MA where her ashes will be interred following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Andrew’s.
