Joyce Adele (O'Brien) Sheehan

Joyce Adele Sheehan, 81, of Scituate, died August 12, 2016, with her family by her side.

Joyce was born on December 20, 1934 in New Haven, CT to John and Bertha O’Brien. She grew up in Hamden, CT and attended Hamden High School. There she met her beloved husband of 58 years, J. Thomas Sheehan. Joyce attended Green Mountain Junior College and worked as a corporate secretary. She married Tom Sheehan on August 25, 1956 and they began their long life together in Brooklyn, New York. In 1971, they transferred to Scituate, MA where they lived happily in Minot for over 40 years.

Joyce was employed by the Town of Scituate and enjoyed 35 years at the Scituate Public Library. There she fostered her love of literature and shared that love with family and friends. Joyce was an active member of the Scituate Garden Club and crafted beautiful floral arrangements for her home and garden. Joyce and her daughter Jill, developed their fine knitting skills with the “Monday Night Knitters” who became dear and treasured friends. She also enjoyed her Wednesday mornings with the Knit-Wits, a talented group of ladies from Scituate. She and her family were also longtime members of Hatherly Country Club.

 

Joyce is predeceased by her loving husband Tom.  She is survived by her four children, Jill Bagby and her husband Rick of Marshfield, Madeline Martin and her husband Chris of Weymouth, Tom Sheehan and his wife SueAnn of Wellesley, and Ted Sheehan and his wife Noel of Fayston, VT. She is survived by her dear, devoted brother James O’Brien and his family. Joyce was deeply devoted to her 10 grandchildren and her extended family including David and Marilyn Sheehan, Larry Sheehan and Kathy Bauer.

 

Visiting hours Tuesday, August 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church). A Funeral Mass Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Parish, 129 So. Main St., Cohasset, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to the NVNA/Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
