My condolences to the Burkes. When I was a child I used to visit 'Aunt' Ellen with my mother Regina, who was her cousin. She was always extremely kind to us, and a wonderful hostess. When my mother passed away, she sent lovely condolences. We had lost touch over the years, but I've always remembered her kindness. She was truly a good woman.

Dear Burke family--I am very sorry for your loss.
Mrs Burke was always kind to me as a child at the SHYC and always interested in our activities--she was also friendly with my Mom Elaine White
May she rest in peace.
Sadly,
Brad White

Dear Burke's and Aunt Ellen's loved ones,

Your mom was my Godmother..I should say she was my fairy godmother!! Two of my most vivid memories were a bridal doll she sent me for Christmas when I was about 10 yrs. old and a sweater she sent for my birthday the next year.

The doll looked as glamorous as Jackie O. and was wearing a wedding dress, veil and jewelry that easily could have graced the pages of Town and Country. The sweater was off white, ribbed and wrap style - even Twiggy would have been jealous!

Your mom made dreams come true..thank you for sharing her with me..may she watch over all of you from on high Love, Janet

She will be missed by the Waltham Bergins. We enjoyed seeing her at Christmas and hearing that she was doing well. My mother loved seeing her come to the family parties. A life well lived.

To the Burkes and extended family,
With Biffer as my best friend from boyhood, the news of Ellen's death brings back a flood of memories--her love, her laughter, her beauty, her goodness. You kids were truly blessed. The song says : "The memories of love will see you through". They will!!--along with the prayers I and others offer for Ellen's peace and for your strength at this time of heartache.

Dear Burke Family,

It's been many years since I've connected with you. So very sorry to learn of your Mother's passing. I only have fond memories of her whether it be in Newton or Scituate. She was always so welcoming and spirited! Thankfully, you have a wonderful family to share all those memories, and her legacy lives on.

Dear fellow Burkies, loved your mom, thank you for the wooden backyard rink that was my entire childhood (that and stealing Charlies Malomar cookies from cupboard whenever Mary Duffy wasnt looking). She made everything seem so fun, for instance, to this day i clearly remember helping to rake all the leaves on your 9-hole golf course-sized yard every Fall at the enthusiastic and persuasive urging of your mom... (while the leaves downhill at 255 Park St were always left unraked...) God Bless, JB (PS-say a prayer to her to convince Duff to pay Bernie Heaven's monetary equivalent for the romance paperbacks and cartons of cigarrettes Duff stole from the Drug Store.)

Kevin & Chip, your mom was very caring to me. I remember so many rides to Walnut Park, BC for skating and hockey practice. She was such a wonderful role model . Your mom made so much impact from Newton to Surfside road and so much more.

So grateful I visited with Ellen on Christmas night @ the Bergin's. I will miss her endless energy, positive spirit and open door. Our summer luncheons in Scituate when my parents (Bill and Helen Ryan) were alive hold special memories for me. She always had a wonderful story, a funny quip or a piece of "life's wisdom" to pass on which I'll never forget. She lives on in all the lives she's touched, and is up there with her parents whom she loved so dearly.

From what I understand, you were one heck of a woman, friend, Mother and all around fun Lady. I wish we could have met.

Ellen was truly unique and amazing. Whenever I think that something is too difficult I remember El standing on her roof at Surfside patching the shingles. We all have such great memories of Ellen.

Ellen's love of family and generosity to others were of legend and we were fortunate that she and Kevin visited with us the week before she died during her annual Florida trip. We will miss her and pray the Lord will reward her for the family she raised and the happiness she spread.

Dear Greg and family,
I am just learning of your mom's passing and am so saddened. I have thought of her often over the years remembering her fondly as an energetic and full of life lady. I enjoyed my time with her in Situate and how she embrassed her family and the numerous friends they would bring along. Please know that I pray for her and all of you.
Sincerely,
Kathleen
